Field & Fern was created to address the need for a greater understanding of the unique natural landscapes of the San Juan Islands. Our mission is to provide landowners and other current island dwellers with a deeper knowledge of the native species that also call this place home.

"The Meadow" at Greenacres Memorial Park: A green burial site in Ferndale, WA.
Green burial MEADOW ENHANCEMENT DESIGN
Field & Fern designed a meadow enhancement strategy for “The Meadow” at Greenacres Memorial Park in Ferndale, WA. The goal of this design was to create a timeline and species list for both adorning gravesites when they are created, as well as increasing the biodiversity of native species at this site. What a treat to work with the kind folks at Moles Farewell Tributes and Crematory on this project.
Seeding the lawn at the Orcas Library with native grasses and wildflowers.

The management at the Orcas Library asked Field & Fern to advise on the addition of native prairie species in the lawn at the library. After recent construction, the lawn grass hadn’t fully taken and so we started over-- incorporating the grass that had been seeded in a few years ago, while also seeding native species to fill in the gaps such as native fescue and yarrow. This project is a collaboration with the fine folks at Kabloom Garden Design. Stay tuned for Spring 2022!
